Does Microenteral nutrition provide enough fluid for rehydration during critical care?

No, Microenteral nutrition only provides enough fluids, electrolytes and nutrients to nourish the intestine cells. IV fluids may also be required based on the patients hydration status.

Can Oralade be used as pre-anaesthetic nutrition?

Yes, Most patients are offered water 2 to 3 hrs prior to any procedure. Oralade makes a palatable alternative, providing a balance of electrolytes and fluids + simple nutrition, that will quickly absorb.

How quickly do the enterocytes start to atrophy if they do not receive any nourishment?

Enterocytes begin to atrophy in less than 90 minutes, from lack of direct nutrient supply, GI shock from Trauma, disease or other dysfunction. It is important to remember that often sick patients have been anorexic for 2 to 3 days prior to admission.
